This blog aims not only to make people laugh, but also to inspire others, instill positive values...in short, to make this world a little better, a little happier. This blog is meant to bless (in my own little way) all those who read it. It's my way of saying "I love you more and more".
Recently, I watched two favorite movies for the nth time - "Slumdog Millionnaire" and "Facing the Giants".
Why do I keep watching these movies? Aside from the fact that they are among the few working DVDs I own, I love their stories. "Slumdog Millionnaire" is about undying love, mixed with humor and suspense. "Facing the Giants" is about faith against all odds.
---------- I'm reading a book entitled "Paradox". A suspense thriller with romance in it, written by Echo Heron. Interesting book. I'm almost half-way through.
--------- I am crazy over Maxx menthol candies. I am eating different variants - honey-mansi, honey and cherry. I have to watch my sugar though.
--------- My friend bought a franchise for Itlog on a Stick. Hope it sells well. She promised to bring me some of her products.
Yup, I didn't make it to the christening after all. What made me decide not to go was the difficulty of raising my feet to hurdle our bathroom. Mom said there were six steps to go up Panciteria San Jancito ...actually it was seven steps. And it was raining.
What I missed was the 10 course meal consisting of appetizer, soup, yang chow rice, pancit canton (their bestseller), chicken, duck, fish, beef, pork, and dessert (almond jelly and lychees). There was also cake from Red Ribbon. My consolation was that mom brought home some of these.
--------- Work came in but it was only a small project. No matter how small, it is well appreciated.
--------- I recently watched two crime films - "The Usual Suspects" and "Advocate's Devil". Both are exciting and interesting.
--------- My friend asked if she and her nieces can use our swimming pool in the condo. Sure, I said. Just pay the fee of P50 per person. Glad to do a favor for a friend.
---------- I wonder what's showing tonight? Well, what do you know, it's a movie I've been wanting to watch - "All About Steve" starring Sandra Bullock. Yay. ------- Great news! I'm down to 130 lbs...that means I am officially in the overweight level. Yehey.
One was an old action film, "Bourne Identity", starring Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. I love the car chase scene. There was some romance even. Matt is so cute!
The other movie I watched was "Valentine's Day". It had an all-star cast including Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Shirley McClaine, Patrick Dempsey, Queen Latifah and many more. Very funny. Romantic without being mushy.
---------- I also have been spending time working on my FGD report. It's already 90+ slides long because Client wants it to be verbatim-heavy. I am enjoying writing the report. Hope it turns out fine.
The other day, I watched three movies - I re-watched "Dear John" and "Imagine That". And I got to view "American Adobo" in Cinema One, starring Christopher de Leon, Cherry Pie Picache, Dina Bonnevie, Ricky Davao, and Paolo Montalban. A comedy-drama. Yes, funny at times. Poignant at certain points. One of the best Filipino movies I've ever seen. I'm glad to have watched it from start to finish.
Data came in yesterday so I have been busy and will be busy for the next few days. The project is a bit complicated so I'm taking longer than usual in writing the report.
Mom cooked spaghetti today. Yummy! I don't mind eating it again for lunch tomorrow.
First, I came up with five story concepts for a TV show. I submitted them to my friend, hoping that at least one will meet her approval. I have yet to hear from her.
I finished reading a book by James Patterson, "Black Friday". Great reading.
I'm now reading a book on short mystery stories. I'm just on my second story.
Missed me? I just came back from a six-day stay in the hospital. I had bilateral pneumonia, meaning both lungs were infected.
I was on IV the whole time so I did not get to take a bath. Eew!
I just ate, watched TV, read books and slept.
I finished reading "Hide and Seek" by James Patterson and "Digital Fortress" by Dan Brown. I enjoyed both books (especially the latter). Very thrilling. The one I'm reading right now, "Black Friday" (by James Patterson again) looks just as suspenseful.
------------ Among the movies I watched were...
..."Lies and Illusions" starring Christian Slater and Cuba Gooding, Jr. Action-filled movie with enough humor and a little romance.
..."12 Rounds" starring John Cena and Aidan Gillen. Also an action film, through and through.
..."Shanghai", starring John Cusack, Yun Fat Chow, Li Gong and Ken Watanabe. A period film during the war. Interesting. Some gory scenes though.
..."Bringing Down the House" starring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah. Comedy, of course. I've seen it before but didn't mind watching it again.
"The Honeymooners" starring Cedric the Entertainer and Mike Epps. Yes, I was thoroughly entertained by this comedy.
..."I Think I'm In Love" starring Joyce Jimenez and Piolo Pascual. Love story with a bit of comedy and drama. I missed the last part though because mom had to watch the news.
..."You are the One" starring Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby. A romantic comedy. Enjoyable to watch.
--------- My sisters in community visited me last Saturday. They prayed over me, gave food and some financial help. Bless them!
--------- It's great to be back! I immediately checked my inbox which reached over 100 emails. But I quickly went through each item.
I read an old James Patterson book, "Jack and Jill". It took me three days to finish reading it. It was suspenseful enough but I did not like the ending. What I like about James Patterson books are the short chapters and the changes in POV's.
-------- I watched "The Truth About Charlie". Nice action movie.
Then, I viewed part of a movie starring Maricel Soriano, Diether Ocampo and Claudine Barretto. Maricel and Diether are lovers who live together. Claudine is Maricel's sister. Maricel goes to the US for a while. Diether and Claudine fall in love. But Claudine loves her sister more, she goes to Cebu. Maricel is devastated. She finds out she is pregnant. Maricel and Diether part ways but remain friends. Last scene is Claudine gets married to someone in Cebu. Diether carries his son. They all look happy.
After, I watched "Kasal-Kasalan (Sakalan)" starring Judy Ann Santos and Wowie de Guzman, with special participation of Ai-Ai de las Alas, Elizabeth Oropesa, and Gladys Reyes. It is about two sweethearts who keep their relationship secret for five years because they know that Judy Ann's mom won't approve since Wowie comes from a poor family. They are forced to marry because they shared a room in Tagaytay because their car broke down and had to get the last room available. However, the night before the wedding it is called off when Judy Ann sees Wowie dancing sweetly with Gladys. The two are miserable. To make the long story short, the two end up married.
Recently, I was able to watch movies (or parts of).
One was "In My Life", starring Vilma Santos, Luis Manzano and John Lloyd Cruz. Ate Vi was spectacular. John Lloyd also performed very well. Luis could do better.
Then, part of "Anastasia", the animated version with Meg Ryan and John Cussack as voice talents. I've always loved Disney films, to this day.
I re-watched "Die Hard" starring Bruce Willis. It's action-packed with enough humor and tender moments.
Today, I viewed part of "Magkaibigan" led by Christopher de Leon and Jinggoy Estrada. The script was excellent, written by Jose Javier Reyes. (I am now inspired to write my script). The movie was a tribute to Rudy "Daboy" Fernandez, who died of cancer.
Which leads me to recall what my doctor said without looking at me. She was looking at my mom. "There is no cure for myeloma".
So, I am a dying person. But Lord knows how many days, months or years I have left. I wonder, what else does God want me to do? As of now, I feel worthless because I am barely earning enough to pay for my medicines. I do enjoy my job but my medical expenses are really so high!
By being on the receiving end, is the Lord teaching me humility? Is He touching people's hearts to reach out to me?
Maybe, before I go, there is some other mission that God wants me to fulfill. Write more books and scripts, perhaps?
The first was "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" a comedy about two cash-strapped friends who live together. They decide to make a porno. It's not that bold a film. Good enough for me to finish it till end.
The second was my all-time favorite, "Sleepless in Seattle". I watched it in YouTube. Ten parts of about ten minutes each. One never gets tired of romantic comedies such as this.
The third was "The Uninvited", a horror movie. Very suspenseful. I like the ending.
Today, I watched two movies so far.
One was "Pasukob" starring Ai Ai de las Alas and Ruffa Mae Quinto. About two sisters, one was ill-fated while the other seemed always lucky. Funny in the typical Filipino way.
The other movie was "Someone Like You", a romantic comedy. It's about a heartbroken woman who comes up with a theory about men, comparing them to cows. Enjoyed the movie.
My mom isn't fond of local movies. She doesn't like the stories.
I don't mind watching Filipino films. Yesterday, I watched the movie of Tony Gonzaga and Vhong Navarro. I wasn't able to catch the beginning so I don't know the title. It's a comedy. Sometimes corny. Other times, funny enough. The story? Something different. And I love the ending.
I also got to watch "Bahay Kubo (Pinoy Mano Po)" starring Maricel Soriano, Eric Quizon, Gloria Romero and a host of young actresses and actors. It was fun to watch with a good combination of light and dramatic moments.
Who says local movies are a waste of time? Not me.
Yesterday, I had the chance to watch two nice movies in a row.
One was an old movie (1994), entitled, "The Paper" starring Michael Keaton, Glenn Close and Marisa Tomei. It's a story of an editor torn between job and family. And the movie shows what goes on inside a newspaper company within 24 hours. Interesting, funny, with some drama.
The other one is, "I Wanna Be Happy" (2006) written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes. Stars include Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, Cherry Pie Picache, and Joey Marquez. It's basically a family movie combining comedy and drama. Fun to watch. Not a dull moment.
-------- I am now coughing. Caught the virus from my mom.
We went to the hospital today for my treatment.
------- Even though I don't have projects, I had to turn down two projects because I am not qualified to do them. One was a market scan, the other is a feasibility study. I don't want to involve myself in things I don't have a clue about.
Oh well, I will just keep praying that God will send projects soon.
Since I don't have any ongoing projects, I've had plenty of time to watch movies on TV. I got to watch "The Ugly Truth" (romantic comedy about the battle of the sexes), "And I Love You So" (romance starring Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby and Derek Ramsay), "Biyaheng Lupa" (story of passengers of a bus bound for Legazpi), and "Tanging Ina ng Pilipinas" (comedy starring Ai-Ai de las Alas with Eugene Domingo)...not necessarily in that order.
-------------- My son asked me to be part of his friend's thesis called Diabetext. I was asked to answer a pre-test, to record my blood sugar twice a day, and to record the times of the day I receive text messages from them. Basically messages like:
...add sources of starch like bread and crackers to your meal. Don't forget to drink water after.
...add a serving of fiber-rich veggies like ampalaya and/or fruits like banana.
...to keep yourself healthy, avoid eating foods high in sugar like jams, chocolates, cakes, pies, etc. A serving of these foods is enough (ex. 1 pc. of donut, 1 small slice of cake).
Well, I appreciate their concern for diabetic patients like me. It's beginning to work, I think because just today, I ate ampalaya and discovered that it tastes good after all.
Today, I finished a report...well, almost. I just need to do the Conclusions.
I "semi-watched" two Tagalog movies on Channel 2, "One More Chance" and "Kung Ako na Lang Sana" plus a mass in between.
It is mom's birthday. She is out right now with my brother and sister-in-law, on visita iglesia. I wanted to come along but I had to work on my report.
I looked at pictures of Derek Ramsey on the internet. Ha ha. He's really soooh good-looking. I never run out of crushes!
No, I did not lose seven pounds (how I wish!). That's the title of the movie I watched yesterday, starring Will Smith. Interesting, nice movie. Very touching. Some parts were a bit boring though because I did not know the real story till the end. It's one of those movies you replay in your mind as you go to sleep.
No work today. So I just ate, slept, checked my inbox, listened to bible reflections, attended Internet mass, read Internet news, played online scrabble. What a life!
I watched a DVD yesterday entitled "Fireproof"...from the creators of "Facing the Giants". It's about a firefighter whose marriage is on the rocks. His father gives him a 40-day love diary. Each day, he was to carry out a deed for his wife. Predictably, the couple reconcile and reaffirm their love in the end. Nice movie but I much prefer "Facing the Giants".
I'm now watching "Love on Line" starring Vic Sotto. A typical Pinoy romantic comedy. Corny.
Yesterday, I watched a suspense movie entitled "88 Minutes", starring Al Pacino. He is a professor used as an expert in court to try serial rapists and killers. One day he receives a call in his celphone with a man saying he has 88 minutes to live.
What would you do if you knew you had 88 minutes to live? Me, I would go to Confession right away and say I love you and thank you to as many people as I could. Then, I would prepare for heaven! (How presumptious of me but I believe in God's love!)
I also watched two episodes of Shake, Rattle and Roll - "Poso" and "Aquarium" but I found them rather corny.
Last night, I watched "Roomboy" on Cinema One. Interesting movie. The lead character is Luis, played by Polo Ravales. Pretty good acting although he kept on smoking the entire movie.
I also got to watch my favorite movie, "Slumdog Millionaire" on Star Movies. I think I will never tire of watching this movie. Ha ha.
I didn't do any work today because I need to verify the bases of the summary tables and charts.
Hi I'm Nimia. Just turned 50. Single again. Not desperately seeking (but secretly longing). Notorious for my corny jokes. My mission in life is to be a joyful instrument of God's love and a loving instrument of God's joy through TAWASSS - teaching, appreciating, writing, affirming, speaking and serving with a smile.
