Of This and That

Each day, I wake up early to fix breakfast for my mom and myself. I boil water for her coffee. I prepare her food which is pandesal and something else.

From time to time, I put her hot compress bag in the microwave because the heat eases the pain. I really hope she will see her rheumatologist this Wednesday. It is my son's day-off and we can "borrow" my sister's driver and car.

I also prepare/"cook" lunch and dinner. I help when she bathes herself or goes to the restroom.

I am glad I am able to show I care for my mom. In a way, this is a small repayment of her sacrifices for me.
------------
I finished reading David Baldacci's "First Family". Suspenseful, interesting, informative even. Nice read!

Now, I have a choice between "Memoirs of a Geisha" (I have watched the movie) and "The Front". I am inclined to read the latter first.
------------
This afternoon I enjoyed watching Nestle's filmography, Kasambuhay Habambuhay. Funny, amusing, entertaining, heart-warming, touching, and more. I have just a few more to watch. I highly recommend that you view them in YouTube. You wait regret it, I guarantee.

------------
My youngest brother was supposed to come and visit but it seems that he couldn't due to errands (nine of them). As usual, it was my sister and her eldest daughter who visited. They brought pancit palabok, puto, grilled liempo, fish fillet, siomai, apple strudel and softdrinks. They helped clean up after. We have enough leftovers to last us for days. Yey.
------------
I might have a new project. It is a translation job. My friend recommended two translators from Ilocano/Cebuano to Tagalog. I will do the typing. So, part of the fee goes to me. I just hope there won't be a conflict with my FGD report.
------------
I have been reading Chicken Soup for the Soul stories (emailed to me regularly). I plan to write some stories. They will pay $200 per story. Not bad.
------------
I am exhausted but I feel good. Coz I've been good.

The Past Few Days

Sorry, I was not able to post anything since Friday. Been quite busy.

Good news is I was able to finish my report, all 108 slides of it. I enjoyed doing it. I'm glad I know Excel and Powerpoint. Makes things easier.

-----------
I finished reading, "The Sigma Protocol". Typical Robert Ludlum novel. Exciting.

I am now reading "Depraved Indifference". Interesting, too.

This world is a fun place with the abundance of books, do you agree?

-----------
Last Sunday, we had a family gettogether at my sister's place. She just had a procedure on her legs so she requested that the venue be her house. The occasion was Daddy's birthday, God bless his soul.

I was the one who volunteered the fact that I have lost weight. The others agreed.

I'm glad I did not throw up. Food was pancit malabon, inihaw na liempo, chicken inasal, puto, manggang hilaw with bagoong, softdrinks, chocolates, cheese with crackers and bubble gum. Even if I had work to do, I don't regret seeing members of my family.

The car used by my niece was rather a big one. I had difficulty getting inside. So, we borrowed my sister's stool so I can step on it while riding and embarking down the vehicle.
---------
Last Monday, mom and I went to the hospital. It's a good thing there was one wheelchair left. After the blood test and staying in the canteen (I had avocado milkshake and kropek), we went to the new chemo room. Quite a distance.

We waited long. We read the books we brought along, anticipating the long wait.

We reached home just a few minutes before Pnoy's SONA.
---------
My thoughts on the SONA? Good enough. Lacking in literary style but rich in heart and sincerity. Keep it up, Mr. President!

---------
I have another project coming up. It's a four-group FGD report due to Client on August 8. The two groups pushed through yesterday but the two others were postponed due to bad weather.
Hope the notes will be okay/adequate enough to come up with a good analysis.

---------
Here's a cute picture.

A New Project

A new project came in and it's interesting. I am helping in the finalization of the questionnaire and I will prepare tab specs, do categorization of answers to open-ended questions, check data tables, chart the data, and analyze/come up with the report.

It's a quantitative study so I'm eager to continue working on the project.

No word yet about that consultancy job. Well, maybe it's not meant to be. Perhaps the Lord does not want me to wake up very early each day, go through traffic, go up a flight of stairs, do challenging (potentially stressful) work, and travel the long distance home. Might affect my health.

I chatted with the daughter of the brother of my ex-husband. She's all grown up now. I asked her what year she is in and she said she has graduated already. She is working as teller at BDO. And, in January, she's getting married! Of course, she invited me to her wedding. Ha ha. Her color motif is red and gold. How time flies!

People are entering different phases of their lives. Some are getting married. Others are retiring. Still others have new jobs. I'm somewhere in-between. I am far from retirement age but I have had a lot of work experience behind me already.

Looking back, I could say life - despite all the trials and pains - has been good to me.

Now here is something heartwarming - nice to see this kind of mail!

Billy Graham is now 91-years-old with Parkinson's disease.
In January 2000, leaders in Charlotte , North Carolina ,
invited their favorite son, Billy Graham, to a luncheon in
his honor.

Billy initially hesitated to accept the invitation because he
struggles with Parkinson's disease. But the Charlotte
leaders said, 'We don't expect a major address. Just
come and let us honor you.' So he agreed.

After wonderful things were said about him, Dr. Graham
stepped to the rostrum, looked at the crowd, and said,
"I'm reminded today of Albert Einstein, the great physicist who this month has been honored by Time magazine as the Man of the Century. Einstein was once traveling from
Princeton on a train when the conductor came down the
aisle, punching the tickets of every passenger. When he
came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his vest pocket. He
couldn't find his ticket, so

he reached in his trouser pockets.

It wasn't there.

He looked in his briefcase but couldn't find it.

Then he looked in the seat beside him. He still couldn't find it.

"The conductor said, 'Dr. Einstein, I know who you are.
We all know who you are. I'm sure you bought a ticket.
Don't worry about it.'

"Einstein nodded appreciatively. The conductor continued
down the aisle punching tickets. As he was ready to
move to the next car, he turned around and saw the great
physicist down on his hands and knees looking under his
seat for his ticket.

"The conductor rushed back and said, 'Dr. Einstein,
Dr. Einstein, don't worry, I know who you are; no problem.
You don't need a ticket. I'm sure you bought one.'
Einstein looked at him and said, 'Young man, I too, know who I am. What I don't know is where I'm going.''

Having said that Billy Graham continued,

"See the suit I'm wearing? It's a brand new suit. My children, and my grandchildren

are telling me I've gotten a little slovenly in my old age. I used to be a bit more fastidious.

So I went out and bought a new suit for this luncheon and one more occasion.

You know what that occasion is?

This is the suit in which I'll be buried.

But when you hear I'm dead, I don't want

you to immediately remember the suit I'm wearing.

I want you to remember this:

I not only know who I am.

I also know where I'm going."

May your troubles be less, your blessings more,

and may nothing but happiness,

come through your door.

"Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil -

it has no point."

Menopause?

It's been over two months since my last period. My OB-Gyne friend said that I might be menopausal already. If I don't have menstruation for an entire year, that would be official.

But so far, no hot flushes. Thank God.

I'm glad the Lord has given me one child. I will never have another. That one child is all the blessing I need. He is the joy of my life!

-----------

Good news! My new project which came in only yesterday is officially approved. I will be facilitating four groups on September 10 and 11. And then I will analyze the results.
Yehey!

Earthquake

Late this morning, I had another client meeting. It was held in Shakey's. We ordered bunch of lunch. It was just a short meeting because my client had to go to another meeting elsewhere.

Upon arriving at the condo, I just took my medicines and went to sleep. Then at about 1:30 pm, we felt an earthquake. My first earthquake while on the 25th floor of a building! Nothing scary though because it did not last a minute. Whew!

I slept some more.

Then, since I learned that a new project came in, I worked on it right away. I finished writing the report except for the conclusions.

New Project

Last night, I watched "Deception" on Star Movies. Nice film. Enough to keep me awake till midnight. I love suspense movies and happy endings.

Today, a new project came in. It's pretty long so I did not finish it.
