Noynoy's Inaugural Speech

I watched President Noynoy's inauguration on TV. His speech was supposed to be 8 minutes long. It took about 21 minutes.

Nice inaugural speech. Mostly in Filipino. Just what I wanted to hear from our new President.
I like it when he said, "There can be no reconciliation without justice".

Salient points:
  • " I will not only not steal, but I will run after thieves."
  • "I will honor the legacy of my father and my mother."
  • "The only valuable asset I can bequeath to you now is the name I carry."
  • "As president,we will be in a position to effect necessary changes. Nothing is impossible with the backing of the people."
  • "I'm no superman!"
Entire speech:

Sigaw natin noong kampanya: “Kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap."

· dekalidad na edukasyon, kabilang ang edukasyong bokasyonal para makapaghanap ng marangal na trabaho ang hindi makapag-kolehiyo;

· serbisyong pangkalusugan, tulad ng PhilHealth para sa lahat sa loob ng tatlong taon;

We will cut red tape dramatically and implement stable economic policies. We will level the playing field for investors and make government an enabler, not a hindrance, to business.

To those who are talking about reconciliation, if they mean that they would like us to simply forget about the wrongs that they have committed in the past, we have this to say: there can be no reconciliation without justice. Secretary de Lima, you have your marching orders. Begin the process of providing true and complete justice for all.

My government will be sincere in dealing with all the peoples of Mindanao. We are committed to a peaceful and just settlement of conflicts, inclusive of the interests of all—may they be Lumads, Bangsamoro or Christian.

We shalI defeat the enemy by wielding the tools of justice, social reform, and equitable governance leading to a better life.

To our friends and neighbors around the world, we are ready to take our place as a reliable member of the community of nations, a nation serious about its commitments and which harmonizes its national interests with its international responsibilities.

We will be a predictable and consistent place for investment, a nation where everyone will say, “it all works."

Walang lamangan, walang padrino, at walang pagnanakaw. Walang wang-wang, walang counterflow, walang tong. Panahon na upang tayo ay muling magkawang-gawa.

Nandito tayo ngayon dahil sama-sama tayong nanindigan at nagtiwala na may pag-asa.

The people who are behind us dared to dream. Today, the dream starts to become a reality.

We will design and implement an interaction and feedback mechanism that can effectively respond to the people’s needs and aspirations.

My parents sought nothing less and died for nothing less than democracy, peace and prosperity. I am blessed by this legacy. I shall carry the torch forward.

Well said, dear President! Now, I'm excited!

Random Thoughts

I was at my Client's house before 9 am despite my "lack of sleep". So I was kinda sleepy while working. It's a good thing I was done by 3 pm.

They were able to call a cab for me. What's interesting was that the taxi driver remembered me! He picked me up somewhere in Cubao and said that I am a consultant. He said I looked the same. I wanted to ask, was I as pretty...or ugly? Ha ha ha. Because he was nice enough to recall me, I gave him a P30 tip.

From time to time, I ask myself: Why do readers bother to read my blog? I oftentimes write about shallow things or things that matter only to me. No world-shaking ideas, no mind-boggling thoughts. My intentions were clear. I wanted to make people laugh. I wanted to inspire. Sorry if I have failed to accomplish this many times in this blog. Let me try to make amends...

FYI, one maintenance medicine I need for my multiple myeloma is Thalidomide. But it has been out of stock for more than two weeks now. So, the question is, what are the consequences? Am I dying...again?

I don't feel death coming any time soon. I am confident that I have many more years to live. And I shall spend one day at a time - living simply, making many people happy, injecting humor and/or inspiration at every opportunity. It has been a beautiful life...and I intend to make it even more beautiful, with the help of God.

Tomorrow, we officially have a new president. Call him P-Noy (for President Noynoy) he says. What about Vice-President Binay, then? Should he be called V-Nay?

The Food and the Bad

Yesterday, my aunt celebrated her 80th birthday at a Chinese restaurant in Greenhills.

Food was plentiful - the traditional pancit, seaweeds with watermelon and ripe mangoes, nido soup, abalone with mushroom, crabs, and more. Best of all, there was peking duck, "two ways".

The cake was banana walnut. It had a lone candle which my aunt blew out willingly.

We were just two large tables of about 12 persons each.

Picture-taking, of course.

My brother-in-law brought me and mom home.

I immediately lay down to rest. But after a while, I started feeling bad. I threw up in the bathroom.

Looks like I ate too much.

======

I started reading "The Google Story" by David Vise. Very, very interesting. Such that, I woke up at 2 am to continue reading.

At past 5 am, a Client texted me telling me to report for work today and tomorrow. No prob.

Or so I thought. It must have been the kaldereta. I went to the bathroom twice. I had a bum stomach.

They were supposed to go to dinner in Valle Verde II but changed their mind because their youngest son has three tests tomorrow, including Pilipino! They brought me down at Eastwood Mall. Good thing I found a cab right away.

When I reached home, mom was waiting for me. We just had instant noodles for dinner.

Oh well, time to rest now. I have work again tomorrow.

Movies

The other night I watched an old movie on TV, entitled "Con Air", starring Nicolas Page. Action. With enough humor in it.

Yesterday, I got to watch parts of "The Rocketeer". It's an okay movie.

Last night, I watched MJ's "This is It". It would have been a great concert.

Today and yesterday, I watched "Sherlock Holmes" starring Robert Downey, Jr. on DVD. Nice movie.

This morning, my mom had arthritis so I fixed her a simple breakfast of oatmeal. I had an early breakfast as well.

Oyster!

No work today. I had lunch with my Balikbayan cousin Mimi, my sister and her daughter Pau. We ate at Zensho, a Japanese restaurant along Tomas Morato.

It was eat-all-you-can so we had hagedashi tofu, sushi, sashimi, sukiyaki, ebi tempura, chicken teriyaki, beef something, kani salad. For me, the biggest hit was the buttered oyster. We had two plates and had to order another plate.

After a few errands, they brought me home. I took a long nap.

For dinner, I ate mom's leftover Chinese food - yang chow rice, fried chicken, sweet and sour fish fillet and noodles. But actually, I ate only a little because I was still full from lunch.

Glad I finished my reports yesterday.

More Projects Done

Today, I worked on two short projects. Both product tests. Easy. My newly graduate son was envious because it looked so easy and he knew how much I was being paid for them. He should know that my medical expenses are high and I got to where I am through hard work.

We had cabbage roll today made by mom. Not bad.

Finished!

At last! I'm done with my report among doctors. I have yet to write another report among patients, for the same client but the data/transcripts are not yet in.

On Thursday, I will be eating out for lunch with my US-based cousin and my sister. Choice of restaurant is Japanese. Yehey! My sister will be fetching me. Most likely, we will be eating at Teriyaki Boy in Gateway, unless my sister has other plans.

On Sunday, the three of us plus my mom, my aunt and a cousin (maybe a few more) will eat lunch at Gloria Maris. It is my aunt's 80th birthday. We will be staying in the fine dining section. Naks!

Tonight, I will be having instant noodles for dinner haha. And maybe, I shall eat some of the chicken salad that mom and I made this morning.

Monday, June 21, 2010

Almost Done

I'm almost through with my report. I just have to embellish it a bit and do the conclusions.

My blood sugar has gone down to a better level. My weight is also lower. Yahoo!

I got to talk over the phone to my cousin who is based in the US. She is here to celebrate her mom's 80th birthday. I am eager to see her! Hope we can see each other soon.

Last night, I watched a movie entitled, "Obsessed". It's about this sexy vamp of a woman who was out to get another woman's (Beyonce's) husband. The movie had such an impact on me it kept playing in my mind as I was about to go to sleep.

Slowly but Surely

There are some reports that are more difficult to write than others. I'm working on one.

Slowly but surely, the report is taking shape.

------

We didn't get to watch TV mass this 9 am. I shall watch the one on the Internet instead.

------

At long last, I was able to collect for a report (the last third payment). I immediately gave the money to mom.

------

I felt so thirsty. Mom so sweetly prepared iced tea for me. Thanks, mom!

It's Father's Day today. To all the dads out there, Happy Father's Day!

Images Online

I used to get my pictures only from ixquick.com. But recently, my friend recommended imagebank.com and corbis.com.

As usual, I looked at photos of food. Here are some which would make you salivate.
Hmmm, yummy!

Still Another Report

I started working on still another report, for another client.

But it's more difficult because it is a qualitative study and among doctors.

I will just have to treat this as another challenge. Anyway, there are topline reports and a full report I can use as guide.

Charge!

Report-Writing

It's report-writing time again! I wrote a report yesterday. And another one today. There are several more coming from the same Client. Yehey!

It is great to be able to analyze data right at home in front of your own computer. I can stop and rest and go to the bathroom, take a bath, take a snack, nap, etc. As long as I meet my deadline, no prob.

The battery of my programmable calculator needed replacing so mom bought me a new battery for P150. A bigger problem was inputting the program for the t-test. I had to refer to the brochure to figure out how to do it. After several attempts, I did it! Success!

Small victories in a single day. What joy!

Batchmates Group

My UPCBA Batchmates started a group in Facebook. We are going to have a get-together on July 31 and they made me the organizer. It's just going to be a small gathering of 30, potluck (merienda). Already, people are starting to confirm their attendance and what they are going to bring to the occasion.

Shall I prepare games? The usual - charades, Pinoy Henyo, etc. But the problem is, who's going to give/prepare the prizes?

Oh well, we can spend the time just updating each other.

And I will ask everyone to fill up a form to update information about themselves so that I will give back to the college secretary our batch info, udated.

I'm excited to see old faces!

At Last!

At long last! My mom's suffering will come to an end as her stent in her kidney will be removed. It has been causing a lot of discomfort and pain. I could hear her moan and groan throughout the day. Praise God, the doctor will soon remove the stent or tube.

My client fetched me today. I worked the whole day at her house. It was easy work but my back hurt from sitting for long. There was plenty of food. I was paid. And I was brought home by her driver. I wish all clients were like her!

A new project came up. But I'm too tired to work tonight. So I told the agency to do the significance testing. My calculator isn't working. And I will do the analysis tomorrow in two hours' time. Only 75 slides.

Another topline report is due within the week but I am still waiting for the transcription.

And I have unfinished tasks with my client today.

So, this is a busy week for me.

Thank You, Lord!

Beautiful Picture

Here is a photo that took my breath away. I just want to share it with you. Isn't it beautiful? The clouds look like fire in the sky. The fields below are "colored" because they are made of different crops. And one can see the far away mountains in the background. Lovely!

Work, Work, Work

I've been working these past three days, I was not able to blog.

But it feels good to have done my job. Today, a Sunday, I wrote a topline report. One down, one more to go.

It's a good thing I turned down my mom's invitation to play mah jongg. I like the feeling of making sacrifices once in a while for work. Now, I can relax and wait for the next job to come.

I have a friend who seems to be enjoying the good life. He keeps traveling, going places. He dines everywhere, drinks everywhere, swims everywhere...To be single and unattached, as of the moment. Ha ha. Sometimes, I envy him. Other times, I don't, for reasons I cannot disclose.

Each of us has reasons to be grateful for. Each of us has things to complain about. I'd rather concentrate on the former.

Here's to the good life!

Lumpiang Togue

I just ate two pieces of lumpiang togue. Yummy! It's funny how little things can bring so much delight!

What else would give me gastronomical pleasure?

1) corn
2) popcorn
3) sugar-free ice cream
4) sugar-free chocolates
5) Cheetos
6) instant noodles
7) tokwa't baboy
8) fishballs
9) squidballs
10) kikyam

Ha ha. None of these are particularly healthy but so what?

Missing Home

The FGDs yesterday went okay except that the first one will be disregarded because the participants are not qualified.

I heard that there is an opening for a Marketing Research Consultant in a global market research agency. So, I was excited about it and could hardly sleep last night, thinking about the job. But when I called this morning, there was no such opening. Ha ha. Back to my life of waiting for projects to come but plenty of time to sleep and engage in hobbies.

This afternoon, to make up for lost sleep, I had several hours of sleep. I dreamt that we were back to our old home in Quezon City. How many times have I dreamed of that house! I miss it sooooh much! Will I ever get over it?

Monday, June 7, 2010

Oh no!

Oh no! I keep losing in Scrabble at Facebook. Maybe it's because I'm playing against people who are used to playing the game. Small consolation: I'm a "beginner". Oh well, will just have to do better next time.

Tomorrow, I have two FGDs. I hope I will do good this time.

This lunch, we had beef lengua and seafood kare-kare. We just ordered from the restaurant downstairs - not the new one, but the old one. I think because of the competition, they made their food more delicious and they put variety in their menu. We're not inclined to order from the new resto any time soon because of bad experience with our first orders.

Scrabble at FB

I recently discovered that there is Scrabble in Facebook.

I played several games today. I won in four games, lost four games, and there are four games which are "ongoing". It's fun to play with human beings for a change. Ha ha.

Mom and I ordered Japanese food from Kitaro in Katipunan. As usual, we had kani salad, ebi tempura, hagedashi tofu, California maki, chicken teriyaki and rice. Delicious!

Dr. Dolittle

I slept late last night so I made up for it today.

Work I was expecting didn't come in so I decided to watch TV. I watched an old, old movie entitled, "Dr. Dolittle" starring Eddie Murphy. Funny film. Amazing how they made the animals "act" and "speak".

I think it would be interesting to be able to speak and converse with animals. But it is infinitely more important to be able to communicate well with human beings.

Desperate Housewives

Someone lent me a DVD of Season 5 of "Desperate Housewives". I started watching it since yesterday. I'm not through yet. But I enjoy viewing it because it's funny, dramatic, sad, heart-warming, and even suspenseful.

I got to work last night and this afternoon on two different projects. But the bad part is my calculator isn't working. Hope it's just the battery.

Mom and my son went to the grocery. Yehey, we have lots of food again. Small delights, great pleasures!

Light Feeling

I have this light feeling these days.

I think it started when I re-read my book, "Something to Thank About". Having an attitude of gratitude really helps in being happy and joyful.

Like yesterday started out "not right". I ate something for lunch which made me throw up. I felt dizzy so I lay down to sleep. I was deciding on whether or not to go to my Client.

After my nap, I felt better. I bought a cold, cold can of Coke Zero. I was able to get a cab right away.

And my work was waiting for me. It was a simple task of copying notes from flip charts and putting them into a powerpoint presentation. Easy! I was also asked to interview the three maids on their chores. I was paid for these two light jobs right away.

For merienda, I was given spaghetti and calamansi juice. For dinner, pork sinigang and fried tawilis. I especially loved the tawilis which I mistook to be dilis!

Then the driver brought me all the way home!

When I reached home, mom brought out the water and my medicines for me to drink. How sweet of her!

Today, I worked on another project. More difficult, yes, but I was able to do it.

Another client called up for consultation.

Mom and I made chicken salad. Delicious! It's made of elbow macaroni, mayonnaise, chicken breast, boiled egg, salt, cheese, pickle relish, pineapple chunks, and some sugar. My son loves it.

Simple things, little things make me happy.
